The beat goes on in Jhapa, and it's only getting louder. Following an electrifying round of first auditions held at Mokshya , five schools have officially made their way into the Top 5 of the highly anticipated second season of 'Jhapa Rock Star'—a high-energy inter-school musical band competition that fuses modern music with Nepal's cultural soul.
The competition, organised by Amrit Store Birtamod, continues to hit all the right notes as it celebrates the creative spirit of youth, promotes live music culture, and revives traditional Nepali soundscapes.
Top 5 Schools Ready to Rock the Finale
After a fierce first round judged by a respected trio of musicians—Subash Shrestha, Jonhy Yonjan, and Bhim Kerung—the following schools have emerged as the frontrunners in Season II:
- Balmiki Education Foundation
- Amity Education Foundation
- Devi Secondary School
- Lhotse English School
- Takshashila Progressive English School
These bands didn't just play songs; they told stories through rhythm, riffs, and raw energy. Each performance was a unique blend of youthful creativity and deep-rooted cultural flair, thanks to the competition's signature rule: the mandatory inclusion of at least one traditional Nepali folk instrument in every band.

A Stage for Sound—and Substance
The first round at Mokshya wasn't just a showcase of musical talent—it was a statement of cultural pride. "The bands didn't just compete; they connected," said judge Subash Shrestha. "They brought their own interpretation of Nepali identity to life through live music. It's inspiring."
As previously highlighted, 'Jhapa Rock Star' is more than a band battle—it's a movement. Chief organiser Amrit Paudel and Program Coordinator Sunita Tamang reiterated that the competition aims to revive Nepal's live music scene, empower student musicians, and preserve local heritage through sound.
Final Countdown Begins
With momentum surging, excitement now shifts toward the grand finale, where the Top 5 will return to the stage for one final, all-out performance. Organisers have teased that the date and venue will be announced soon, and if the opening round is anything to go by, the final showdown promises to be a musical event for the ages.
A Cultural Rebirth, One Chord at a Time
At a time when global pop culture dominates teen playlists, Jhapa Rock Star is striking a different chord—one that amplifies Nepal's voice, values, and vibrancy. From modern riffs to madals, school uniforms to spotlight dreams, this is grassroots entertainment with a heartbeat.
As the finalists tune their instruments and tighten their sets, one thing is sure: Jhapa isn't just watching a music competition—it's witnessing a cultural renaissance, led by the next generation.
